Bringing you Joy through Song!
The Achill Choral Society began as a community choir in 1982, drawing our members from an area north-west of Toronto. We gather each Wednesday evening at St. John’s Anglican Church (Highway 9, 3 km east of Orangeville) to rehearse our repertoire for the coming season’s concerts. We are a mixed auditioned adult choir of approximately 70 choristers. If you love to sing, please contact us. Rehearsals will be open again in September. Acceptance to the choir is subject to an audition later in September with our choir director.
We are delighted to have Shawn Grenke as our Director. We admire the fresh and spirited conducting approach that Shawn brings to Achill. Not only is he accompanist to several of Canada’s leading professional choirs (the Elmer Iseler Singers, and the Amadeus Choir), he is also the Associate Conductor of the Amadeus Choir, and is Director of Music for the Eglinton St. George’s United Church in Toronto, and the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers.
Here’s To Song!
To celebrate 35 years of bringing joy through singing, we’re presenting a joyous combination of Achill favourites and new material. We’ll be singing Beethoven’s stirring Hallelujah, Fauré’s wonderful Cantique de Jean Racine, an ethereal piece entitled Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo, a beautiful setting of Robert Frost’s poetry by Randall Thompson, several whimsical nursery rhymes, and some classic Canadian songs.
