Achill Choral Society

The Achill Choral Society derives its Gaelic name, meaning "eagle", from the tiny hamlet north of Toronto, Ontario, where the choir was founded in 1982. Auditioned amateur singers come from the towns and villages of the Headwaters Region and South Simcoe. They regularly perform two seasonal concert series to sold-out audiences, attracted by the choir’s skillfully-blended sound and varied repertoire, often featuring guest soloists and accompanists of the highest calibre. The choir also entertains at many community benefit events.

The Achill Choral Society has twice hosted choruses from England and the Netherlands, and has performed with several choirs around Ontario. Highlights have been concerts at Roy Thomson Hall, George Weston Recital Hall, Rogers Centre, Sharon Temple and Mississauga Performing Arts Centre.

A. Dale Wood, Artistic Director and Conductor

Dale Wood is a gifted musician who readily shares his passion for choral music. His lifelong musical career presently includes directing the Achill Choral Society, the Georgetown Choral Society and the Georgetown Children’s Chorus, as well as teaching private and group lessons in Piano, Voice, Organ and Composition. As founding director of the Achill Choral Society, he has taken the choir on four successful European concert tours to the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and to Ireland.

Dale Wood is a talented composer and choral arranger of new works for his choirs. Two featured on this recording are from his Christmas cantata, Allelulia, written in 2002 for the twentieth anniversary of the Achill Choral Society.

Beverly Foster, Accompanist

Beverly enjoys a successful musical career as choral accompanist, composer and recording artist of original music and music educator. She is Past Executive Director of the Ontario Vocal Festival. (web site:
